KFC for Good Foundation

Launched in August 2022, the Social Impact KFC for Good Foundation is our way of giving back to the communities we serve and supporting our 3,000-strong team across Canada. Our mission is to champion causes that empower young Canadians with skills and support to enhance their well-being. We aim to make a tangible, positive impact in our local communities through strategic partnerships.

Food Recovery Social Impact

As part of our commitment to sustainability, KFC Canada actively seeks ways to recycle, upcycle, reuse, and divert waste from landfills. By recovering edible food and distributing it to those in need, we reduce waste and support communities facing food insecurity.

Over the past year, we have partnered with food recovery organizations to redistribute surplus chicken, bacon, cheese, beverages, and fresh produce from our restaurants and distribution centers.

Food distributed in 2021 Social Impact:

26.9 tonnes of food was donated to help fight hunger.

Local Procurement Social Impact

We prioritize local sourcing whenever possible, supporting Canadian businesses while reducing our environmental footprint.

Key statistics:

  • 100% of our chicken is sourced locally, with fresh produce, fries, beverages, flour, and oil.
  • 76% of our suppliers were locally based in 2021.

Plastic Reduction

KFC Canada is dedicated to reducing plastic waste and implementing sustainable packaging solutions. In 2022, we removed plastic straws and cutlery, replacing them with paper and wooden alternatives. Additionally, all our paper-based packaging is sourced from responsibly managed forests and recycled materials.

Progress so far:

  • 70% of plastic is phased out.

Future goals:

  • KFC Global 2025 Commitment: By 2025, eliminate non-recoverable plastic-based packaging and ensure all customer-facing plastic packaging is recyclable or reusable.

Leading Food Quality

Active Reduction of Fats, Sodium & Sugar

At KFC Canada, we prioritize food quality and nutrition. We continuously improve our recipes to reduce saturated fat, sodium, and sugar without compromising taste.

Key sodium reductions achieved:

  • 20% reduction in sodium for KFC Burger Mayo and Supercharged Sauce.
  • Ongoing efforts to further reduce sodium and sugar levels in key menu items.

Hormone & Steroid-Free Chicken

All our chicken is hormone and steroid-free, ensuring the highest quality for our customers. Our suppliers must adhere to strict policies to maintain these standards.

Responsible Antibiotic Use

We are committed to responsible antibiotic use, ensuring they are only administered to maintain or restore animal health and never at levels that pose a risk to human medicine.

Animal Welfare

KFC Canada is dedicated to humanely treating animals in our supply chain. We work with Canada’s leading poultry suppliers, who adhere to the highest animal welfare standards.

Our commitment:

  • Partnering with suppliers that follow strict welfare codes and guidelines.
  • Ensuring poultry is raised in well-regulated barns under humane conditions.
